Prizren

We start the trip from Tirana to Prizren. Prizren is an ancient historical city near Lumëbardh, under the picturesque slopes of Sharr Mountain is one of the oldest cities with a long and rich history. During the Roman period the city was called Theranda, while during the Byzantine period, it was called Prizdrijana. In the past, the old Dardan highway that connected Lezha with Nishi passed through these spaces. This street in the Middle Ages was called Via de Zenta, while in the 19th century, Prizren was the second most important economic and commercial center of the Albanian lands, with about 1,500 shops at the end of this period.

Kalaja Fortress

The fortress of Prizren (Albanian Kalaja e Prizrenit) is a medieval castle in Prizren in southern Kosovo. It was built on a hill above the city, under which Prizren gradually developed into a large city. The fortress was declared a Cultural Monument of Special Importance in 1948. Layers of prehistoric, Roman, and late antiquity have been preserved under its walls The Ottomans also built a hammam, a mosque, and military facilities. The latter were used until 1912 and since then the fortress has been in a continuous process of decline.

Albanian League of Prizren Museum [Muzeu Lidhja Shqiptare e Prizrenit]

The League of Prizren was the first major Albanian movement organized administratively, politically, and militarily since the time of Skënderbeu. Forced by the specific circumstances of 1878, the Albanians called a National Assembly, which aimed at the unification of Albania.

Sinan Pasha Mosque

Dating from 1615, the Sinan Pasha Mosque is the most important in Prizren, and it sits right at the heart of the old town, overlooking the river and the town’s Ottoman Bridge.

Our Lady of Ljeviš

Our Lady of Ljeviš is a medieval Serbian Orthodox church located in Prizren. Its inclusion as a UNESCO World Heritage site recognizes its importance as a testament to the region’s medieval heritage and artistic legacy.
